Guarantees, Grants for Energy-Efficiency Improvements
| Through its Rural Energy for America Program (REAP), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) provides loan guarantees and grants to farmers and ranchers (agricultural producers) or rural small businesses to make energy- efficiency improvements, such as converting diesel irrigation motors to electric and installing more efficient grain-drying equipment. |

Program specifics:
- Energy-efficiency improvements typically involve installing or upgrading equipment that results in a significant reduction in energy use.
- Energy-efficiency improvements include irrigation conversions, pumping systems, grain-drying systems, etc. (Funds may not be used for agricultural tillage equipment, vehicles or residential improvements.)
- Grants up to 25% of project costs are available, with a minimum of $1,500 and maximum of $250,000.
- Applicant must be the owner of the system.
- Applications must be submitted prior to project initiation.
- In OPPD’s service area, energy-efficiency improvement projects require an energy audit or assessment that can be performed by OPPD.
