Despite several inches of snow on the ground, more than 300 hardy souls took part in the sixth annual Heartland Walk for Warmth and Run for Fun on Saturday, February 23rd. OPPD along with MUD and Black Hills Energy sponsor the event which is the major charitable event of the year in the community raising money for area energy assistance programs to help families in need.
"The event organizers were very pleased with the turnout," said Judi Martin, Community Support/Consumer Relations Coordinator. "It was a great way to raise community awareness of our campaign which continues through the end of May. Our goal is to surpass last year’s total of $116,000."
The campaign has raised $83,500 so far, but still needs another $11,500 by March 31 in order to receive a $15,000 challenge grant from the Peter Kiewit Foundation. You can help by donating today. Three options are available, choose the one that fits best for you: text HWFW to 80077 from your cell phone to make a $10 donation (Normal message and data rates may apply);
