
Site Vice President
Chief Nuclear Officer
Lou Cortopassi began assisting OPPD at Fort Calhoun Station in early 2012 as part of a recovery team from Exelon Nuclear Partners.
In August 2012, Mr. Cortopassi became Site Vice President of Fort Calhoun Station. In September 2012, Mr. Cortopassi took on the additional responsibilities of Chief Nuclear Officer. In these roles, he is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Fort Calhoun Nuclear Station. He has oversight for the day-to-day operations, including coordination and management of personnel, overall station performance, and the safe and efficient restart of the station.
Previously, Mr. Cortopassi was Exelon’s vice president, Mid-Atlantic Operations. In that role, he provided critical governance, oversight and support functions for Exelon Generation’s Mid-Atlantic nuclear facilities, including Limerick, Peach Bottom, Oyster Creek and Three Mile Island. Prior to joining Exelon, Mr. Cortopassi was the plant manager at Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station. Owned by Arizona Public Service, Palo Verde is a three-unit, 4000-megawatt plant located west of Phoenix, Ariz.
During his career, Mr. Cortopassi has held leadership positions in operations and training at San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) near San Clemente, California, Millstone Nuclear Power Station in Waterford, Connecticut, Indian Point Energy Center, north of New York City, New York, and Columbia Generating Station in Richland, Washington. He also served as a senior evaluator at the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) in Atlanta, Georgia.
Mr. Cortopassi holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and finance from Georgia State University. He was licensed by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) as a reactor operator and senior reactor operator (SRO) at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station and held an SRO certification from River Bend Nuclear Generating Station near Saint Francisville, La. In 2009, he completed the INPO Senior Nuclear Plant Managers course.
Mr. Cortopassi continues to be an employee of Exelon Generation, LLC, which has an operating services agreement to manage Fort Calhoun Station’s nuclear operations.
