Employees of OPPD's Fort Calhoun Station have received the nuclear energy industry's B. Ralph Sylvia Best of the Best Award, beating out more than 200 other nominees for the Top Industry Practice (TIP) honor.
OPPD's Bob Lisowyj was singled out for his role in developing the unique application of scientific principles to identify and monitor for stress corrosion cracking, said Jeff Reinhart, Site Vice President, Fort Calhoun Station.
The OPPD research team devised a method to accurately assess the suscepitibility of stainless steel and other alloys to stress corrosion cracking.
Their research will make it posssible to find tiny flaws in metal that can take 20 years to develop.
