APPA Lineworkers' Rodeo
Nearly 200 competitors from across the country recently took part in the American Public Power Association's 10th annual Public Power Lineworkers' Rodeo.
OPPD served as the host utility for the event on Saturday, March 27, in Levi Carter Park, just west of Eppley Airfield.
Besides the competitors from public utilities across the country, a group of public power experts were also scheduled to take part in the APPA's Engineering and Operations Technical Conference in downtown Omaha March 28-31.
Journeyman crews and apprentices from OPPD and other utilities competed in several line-work-related events during the competition, which ran from 7 a.m. until about 2 p.m.
In addition to competing for professional recognition against a thrilling backdrop, the rodeo allowed lineworkers to practice essential skills in a safe environment and to learn from other professionals. The event also provided them an opportunity to attend training courses.
OPPD employee volunteers helped stage this event, which put OPPD in the national spotlight.
