January 2010 Monthly Report
Car A104 Thor

This month, we have been working mainly on the three wheels and axels. We have also been testing our motor and have been looking for the perfect setting. The front axel still needs to be remade and just currently needs to be completely reconstructed so it sits lower to the ground. We had our own spindles and hubs remade so the car is much stronger and more durable. We stripped off all of the old Velcro and plastic so we can make our body more appealing.

In the next coming months we need to reconstruct a seat and create a body. We have also been looking for an electric, compact, amp/volt meter that can be installed in all of our cars. We have also been looking for a remote speedometer that can be used to tell our data collectors the speed of the car so we would be able to tell when the car begins to slow down. With that information, we can better our gearing ratio and hopefully perfect the balance between speed and endurance. Another problem we have constantly had in the past is the glare of the sun and the danger it possesses for our drivers and bystanders. Our current idea, although it hasn’t been approached yet, is to purchase window tint and use that on all of our canopies.

Big Boy Monthly Report
January 15, 2010

Members of team big boy are: Jeremy Gronenthal, Christopher Lute, Michael Clayton, Zach Thomas, Zach Martensen, Jordan Svoboba, and Jacob Matteson.

The car is currently stripped down to the frame. We are working on putting a new motor mount on the back, switching from iron to aluminum, and making the frame lighter. We are also cutting some unneeded aluminum off. We are switching motors. We are also working on our steering to make it better.

We are also going to start putting disk breaks on and plan on putting a stereo inside our car. We plan on getting new plastic for the outside. Our team also are going to have to rewire our car.

Car S-18

During the month of January we are completely redoing all the wiring on our car and are going to a thinner wire for things that do not take that much energy to run like our amp meter or speedometer. We are going to redo all of the protective foam that covers all of the sharp corners and any wire that could come in contact with our driver or anyone else. We are working on getting new brakes that are preferable disk and a new axel to replace the steel one we have now, we are hoping to go lighter wit aluminum. We have completely stripped our car done to the basics and are working from almost scratch.
