We'll Haul Away Your Old Fridge for Recycling and Pay You $35
The Refrigerator Recycling Program has been completed for 2011. OPPD will begin once again collecting and recycling older refrigerators and freezers in March 2012.
The refrigerator recycling program proved a hit with customers in 2010 and exceeded goals, with 2,208 refrigerators being recycled.
As the program is structured this year, OPPD customers can have their old refrigerator recycled and hauled away, and earn $35.OPPD contracted with JACO Environmental to remove the appliances from customers' homes, then dismantle and recycle them.
Consider the benefits:
- Old refrigerators use up to four times more electricity than new ones.
- Save up to $150 a year on your energy bill.
- About 95 percent of the refrigerator materials are recycled. The overall environmental benefit is equal to taking two cars off the road for one year.
