OPPD has been named a Tree Line USA Utility in recognition of its quality tree care programs and services.
It's the ninth year in a row OPPD has been designated a Tree Line USA Utility, a program sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters. OPPD has received more designations than any other Nebraska utility.
"Across America, people are recognizing and celebrating how vital trees are to our cities and towns," said John Rosenow, Chief Executive of the Arbor Day Foundation, a nonprofit education organization dedicated to tree planting and environmental stewardship.
"Trees help reduce peak demand by conserving energy," he said. "They also clean the air and water, increase property values and make our homes more comfortable, livable places."
One of the top objectives of Tree Line USA is replacing the outdated line-clearance practice of topping trees with natural pruning, said Mr. Rosenow. Natural pruning trains trees to grow around wires and retain more of their natural form, reducing clearance costs for utilities by lessening the frequency of line clearance.
"As deregulation has an increasing impact on the structure of utilities throughout America, it is hoped that high quality professional tree care will be at the forefront of both community and company concerns," said Mr. Rosenow.
