Rebuild America Project

Rebuild America, a program of the U.S. Department of Energy, was formed to improve energy efficiencies in major commercial buildings throughout the United States. In September 2003, OPPD, in partnership with the Energy Systems Lab (ESL) and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, received a Rebuild America grant. The grant project has three objectives:

  • To make Nebraska one of the top one of the top 10 EnergyStar Building states in two years (EnergyStar facilities use, on the average, about 40 percent less energy than other facilities of the same size.)
  • To demonstrate the Continuous Commissioning Leading Retrofit Process (CCLRP) using two different case studies
  • To attract private funds to improve energy efficiency in the commercial sector

How the Program Works

Managers of commercial buildings, including hospitals, k-12 schools, federal offices, college and university buildings, shopping centers and supermarkets may apply to have OPPD and ESL engineers evaluate and identify buildings that might qualify. The program runs through September 2007.

Customer Benefits

OPPD and ESL will:

  • Identify Continuous Commissioning retrofit measures
  • Perform an energy audit walk-through and conduct field measurements
  • Assist building owners applying for the Energy Star designation
  • Conduct workshops to transfer technologies to communities within Nebraska

Project Impact

Supporters say the program could have a tremendous impact in Nebraska, if successful. Estimates show that the effort could reduce energy consumption in the state by 20 percent, resulting in savings of about $40 million per year.

Surge Protection

OPPD's Surge Guard Plus can help prevent damage to your electronic equipment. Even small surges can create minor damage that may go unnoticed but still shorten the life of your valuable equipment.
