Paxton-Mitchell is Fired Up About Its New Heating System
When Paxton-Mitchell found that its boiler/steam system was literally on its last leg, there was an urgent need to replace the equipment, which provided heat for the company's 700,000 square-foot facility. The company received bids for a new boiler/steam system, but decided to go with an electric direct-unit heater system due to operating efficiencies. The system consists of 32 10-kilowatt electric unit heaters and four window heat pumps with a total of 17,000 BTU capacity.

The economy of electricity over natural gas played a big part in the decision, said company officials. They believed they could get a large portion of their investment back through operation efficiencies. There also are other long-term benefits. If they lost a heater unit, it can be repaired without affecting the heat of the entire plant. Another factor was the OPPD rebate on the heat pump units, officials said.
