Rate 470: Meter Reading From an Inaccessible Meter

OPPD charges customers whose inaccessible meters require additional meter reading costs. Meters can be inaccessible for several reasons, including indoor meters, meters locked inside perimeter fences, and meters in yards with dogs.

Customers can avoid inaccessible meter charges by providing the District with a key to enter locked locations, or by phoning in their monthly meter readings to the District’s interactive voice response system.

The design of meter read routes allows the District to maximize the number of meters read by a single meter reader. Inaccessible meters cause the District to send a meter reader to read a single meter – and not the entire neighborhood. The meter reading charge recovers these additional costs. The District assesses this meter reading charge each time the District deploys a meter reader to an inaccessible meter.

Customers with inaccessible meters may also choose to have a special meter installed. These meters allow the District’s meter reader to gather meter readings electronically – without entering the premise. Customers choosing this option pay a one-time charge to recover the cost of the special meter.

1) If the customer calls monthly meter reading into interactive voice response system: No Charge

2) Meter reading outside of normal route (per reading): $35.00

3) Installation of remote meter reading device (one time charge): $85.00
