The team is all senior boys.  There are only four of us. There is Billy, the driver, Kaleb the painter, Josh and Lance the pit crew.

August
We looked up steering and looked for a new motor.  When we found what steering we needed we ordered it. Then we went to the drawing board. We decided to make it fit the smallest student.Tecumseh Power Drive car model

September
We started building a live size model. We made some changes. Then we went onto building our real frame. When we got done with the real frame.  Then we started to work on the motor mount. We decided to use a sliding system. We put a rack and pinion on the car for steering.

November
When we got that made we discussed what type of back wheel we were going to use. We decided to go with a free spinning back wheel. We needed to find a free spinning back wheel. We started by putting the motor and the controller on. We also put the back wheel on the car. We had to find a different way to put the back wheel on the car. We decided to put it on like a bicycle wheel is put on.

Measuring for proper frame size.           Frame work continues

December
We are now ready to but the brake and gas pedal on the car.  It took a couple of days to out it one the car and made it work.  We had to make the brake pedal wider so that the cable was not under the driver’s foot.  When we got the pedals on the car. We hooked up the brakes and set the so that they would stop the car.Frame from a different angle

January
We are now done with the car.  We are now test-driving the car. We have took every thing off the car so that we can paint it and get it ready for the up coming races.

February
We started working on the body and nose cone. We are making the body out of lexon. It took a while to decide how to attach the back cover. We decided to use velcro to attack to back. To attach the windshield we used buttons. We used the .030 lexon. On the nose cone we used sheet medal. It took a while to figure out how to make it fit tight to the car.

Our sponsors for the car are Topps Mechanical and Gerdes Construction.

S-35 car
This our first year of E.V. Our team is made up of Lance Laug, Taylor Kuhl, Alex Kuhl, Josh Peters, and Vince Sherman. We have based our frame on last year’s car with a few new age modifications. We used ¾”conduit instead of the schedule 40 steal pipe used last year making our car a lot lighter now. We had to design our own steering system, which took many tries, and three different designs but now we have one that works well. When we first got running we were going very slow do to the old engine and controller system we had. The old system kicked out when it was under a load so we had to get rid of that one and buy a new one that would not kick out anymore. We go a lot faster now! One of the biggest problems, next to the steering, was how we were going to make our car fit all of us, since we all have to drive it the first year. There is a height difference of almost a foot between Vince and Lance so we had to make a way for our seat to move to fit both. Mr. Richard’s fortunately helped design the seat so it would slide and have pins to lock it in. Problem Solved! All in our entire car is coming around very nicely. We have hit a few minor bumps but we will be ready on race day.

These cars are not cheap to build so this year we have good support from the businesses and people in town. Kuhl Inc., Topp’s Mechanical, Brinkman Motors, Jeff and Joan Peters, and our teacher Mr. Richard are sponsoring us this year. Thank you all for helping us bring this car together.
