Monthly Reports
January
The first couple days we came back from Christmas break the team went over definitions and parts of the chassis related to the Power Drive car. The team worked on drawing sketches of the car’s chassis with all the components in the drawing. They had to measure and weigh all the components, as well as evaluate the size of the chassis and see if everything will fin in the car. The team estimated the weight of the chassis with all the components and then made a chart for the size and weight of the components. Each team member then researched and wrote a report about the differences between the possible materials that could be used to build the chassis. The materials should include but not be limited to aluminum, chrome moly, ridid conduit, and steel.
Next the team determined the size of each frame member on the prototype chassis. The team also color coded the drawing of the chassis. The team calculated the weight of each frame member and made a chart from the recordings. They then calculated the weight of the non rolling chassis and the weight of a rolling chassis. The team built the new chassis. Team members then tested the motor, made steering covers, and started shaping the nose. We also sent a newsletter out to all of the sponsors and the parents of the students in the class. On the 28th of January the Power Drive team ran concession stands for the Basketball Conference Tournament. The team will also be working concessions the 31st. We are continuously working on the new chassis, finishing up any last touches on the nose of the new car, as well as making different steering covers for the new car.
February
Power Drive has been busy assembling the new car this month. We have put the front axle, seating, spindles, and front steering geometry on the new chassis. We also started mounting the rear axle and putting the hime joints on the chassis. The progress we’re making to the car has come along way since the beginning of the month. The team has been working hard to get the car finished so we can start testing them. After we finish the chassis, we will work on the body of the car and then take the car to go get a paint job.
March
The team has been busy trying to get the S-20 Car completed while finishing up on the A-21 Car. The team sanded the A-21 car and put new brake lines in and is complete. The car has been painted blue with lime green flames. The tires and control box are on the S-20. The brake pedal and new toggle switch are mounted along with the motor. The S-20 chassis is all wired. We spray painted the S-20 chassis orange to prevent rusting. The nose is finally onto the car, along with the axle fenders. We started putting the pieces onto the S-20 chassis and it is starting to be bondoed on the front end of the car.
