For Ladies Only
Pomeroy-Palmer Power Drive Team

January ReportThe Ladies Only Team
Pomeroy-Palmer has a new electric car team ”Ladies Only” consisting of 10 ladies: Jessie, Tasha, Audra, Sam, Taryn, Kerstin, Melissa, Jill, Leah, and Andrea. These ladies purpose is to build and complete with a design of a pink car supporting ”The Race for the Cure,” logo. Do to the late start, they will start with an existing frame and design a new car around the previous fabricated frame. There will be a lot of work that will have to be done within the next couple of months to complete the car. They have a target date prior to their first race, April 19, 2008 at Wayne State College Spring Rally, and May 3, 2008 at the Power Drive Championship MidAmerican Motorplex. We are currently working on building the car and working very hard to help the cure.

February Report
We would like to start by thanking North Iowa Area Community College  (NIACC) for donating a motor and a controller. Without their generous contribution our car would not be able to run. We would also like to thank them for our SWEET shirts. Got tools?…We do!!

We have contacted the Siouxland Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation about using “Race for the Cure” slogan on our car and have received the following reply:

"Sounds like you have a great idea.  Since the towns are not in our service area I have directed your inquiry to Komen National and they will be getting in touch with you.  You will get broader "coverage" that way and will help Susan G. Komen for the Cure even more.

Thank you so much for thinking of Komen for the Cure.  If there is anything I can do to give more information or insight into breast cancer I am willing to help you.  We do have a lot of educational materials that may be helpful, some schools even have a handbook that they keep in the library for check out.  It is a very insightful review of what cancer is and how to live with it.  There are a lot of kids who have parents or other loved ones dealing with cancer and this handbook goes a good job of explaining all the aspects of it.

Thanks again for sharing your idea with us.  I look forward to seeing how we can work along side of you.
Marilyn Rensink, President
Siouxland Affiliate"

We are currently waiting for a reply from Komen National.

We have been working on our car for about three weeks now, and have gotten a lot accomplished. We started out by taking off the outside and some of the parts inside. We then put in a new belly pan. After that we fabricated some of the body panels. We then proceeded to install the racing harness, some of the padding, and the seat. Once all of that was done we were able to practice the exit test. After that we mounted the motor and the controller. Once those were in, we were able to get most of the wiring done. We have gotten a lot accomplished, but we have had one difficulty…the weather!

Ready to race The HillThe Hill Test - It was a nice day out so we decided that we would either take the car out or build a snowman.  We decided to take the car out to the top of the hill to test how fast it would go if we pushed it down.  Each driver took a turn in the car and someone else pushed it.  The car’s speed probably topped out at about 4 mph.  We had a lot of fun testing the Oh! Oh! Car.

March Report
This past month, we have accomplished a lot on the Oh! Oh! Car, her name is Lucy.  Many things have been completed on this beauty and she is really beginning to take shape in just a short amount of time.  We installed the brake light, making her look scandalous.  The wiring was finished and carefully done for safety reasons.  She is looking really sharp with black wheel covers and mirrors.  The chain is fitted perfectly and working well.  With her being able to function now she sounds ferocious.  Hopefully by the next time we meet we will have her out strutting her stuff.  Running her through a course for our drivers to get used to this dazzling glamour, the reason is to learn the idiosyncrasy of this delicacy.

With the 211 lady- hours put in towards Lucy, we feel that she is ready for her first debut.  Not many people suffered huge losses of blood; no tears were shed other then that of Mr. Buddin, sweat was a usual.  Once the hair went up it got serious.

Once Lucy has passed the test she will be glamorized with pink paint, logos, and graphics to make her sizzle.  Our car will carry the phrase “Ride for the Cure” and we are supporting the Siouxland Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation.  We are doing all these things to bring awareness to breast cancer and the need for more research, hoping that the next dollar will be able to find a cure for this disease.
