OPPD, with partners Habitat for Humanity, the City of Omaha and others, have constructed a dream home for a derserving area family and a dream come true for energy conservation. The home features state-of-the-art, energy-efficient technology and will be rated Energy Star compliant by the U.S. Department of Energy. Its efficiency will be measured and tracked, and the findings will be applied to future energy-smart home construction.
The OPPD home is one of 18 Habitat for Humanity of Omaha homes being built in the Druid Hill Development at 33rd and Spaulding Street. The energy costs for the home during its first year of use are estimated at just $300.
As a show of their commitment to community service, nearly 200 OPPD employees volunteered their time and labor to build the home. In addition, many area companies assisted with the construction process and provided building supplies (please see list of partners below). |
