Success Stories

Economic Development works with the Nebraska Department of Economic Development, Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce, Sarpy County Economic Development Corporation, Nebraska Development Network-Southeast Nebraska and many other local economic development groups in our service area. These are the types of progressive activities that occur with the help of the economic development community in our state.

Oriental Trading Company

Oriental Trading Company, a top 50 Internet and top 50 catalog company, announced the grand opening of its newest fulfillment center. This 737,000-square-foot facility will expand inventory storage and order fulfillment space to a total of 1.9 million square feet.

It is the largest distribution facility in eastern Nebraska and utilizes the latest in technology, including a sophisticated order management system and a voice automated system that tells employees what products to pick and where they are located. This creates a paperless environment and allows employees to have both hands free, reducing processing and walk time.

The opening of this new fulfillment center nearly doubles order processing capacity from previous levels. The privately held company has approximately 3,000 employees throughout the Omaha metropolitan area.

PayPal

PayPal has opened a second facility in it’s La Vista, Neb., operations center; a 125,000-square-foot office building employing an additional 600 people. In 2003, PayPal moved into a new 115,200-square-foot building on a 22-acre La Vista site.

PayPal, an eBay company founded in 1998, enables any individual or business with an email address to send and receive payments online securely, easily and quickly. The company will employ over 1,600 people in the Omaha area in this burgeoning knowledge-based business.

AAA Auto Club Group

AAA is occupying a new center in Omaha for its Auto Club Group, which consolidated care center operations from AAA locations in Chicago, Minnesota-Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota and Wisconsin. The center provides 375 new jobs.

Gallup University

Gallup University, which sits on a 50-acre riverfront campus, opened its doors in fall 2003. The company employs 500 people in its Omaha facility. The 305,000-square-foot main building encompasses an area as large as five football fields and serves as a “town square” for the planned office campus.

Gallup attracts thousands of business leaders to its’ Gallup University leadership training every year, and now they are coming to Omaha. Some of the visitors getting their first glimpse of Omaha will be influential company CEOs from other states and countries. When they see Omaha’s impressive growth along the riverfront and downtown, they may consider Omaha as a location for their own business expansion. Gallup is a big asset to our city and to OPPD.
