OPPD's rates include a Minimum Monthly Charge. This charge recovers metering and customer service costs. There are cases where customers terminate service with OPPD, but leave the meter in place. OPPD continues to incur the metering and customer service costs as long as the meter is in place and ready to provide service.
Therefore, OPPD will collect the Minimum Monthly Charge from customers who terminate service with OPPD, then re-establish the same service within one year. This does not apply if another customer takes over the service during the interim time-period.
Example: A customer has a cabin on a lake with electric service. Since they will not use the cabin during the winter, the customer terminates the service with OPPD in November. They then re-establish the service when they start using the cabin in April. The meter is still in place for the four months when no one is billed for the service. OPPD will then charge the customer four months of the Minimum Monthly Charge to recover the District's cost over the winter.
