OPPD Employees Have Heart

Heartland Walk for Warmth Moves to Westroads Mall

Team OPPD

The 2012 Heartland Walk for Warmth was held on Thursday, February 2, 6 p.m. at Westroads Mall. View a video of this event.

OPPD employees (above) took part in the 2012 Heartland Walk for Warmth, one of the Energy Assistance Program's biggest fundraisers. Employees raised over $60,000 in 2011 to help customers in need. The goal is to raise $110,000 in 2012. You can still help. Donations will be accepted through May 31.

Employees Support Energy Assistance Program Auction

OPPD's sixth annual Energy Assistance Program (EAP) online auction raised a record $20,500 to aid individuals who need help paying their bills or meeting their energy needs next year.

Santa (employee Mike Sip) says: "It is an honor to, in some small way, help you with this effort. It demonstrates the real heart of OPPD and its employees for all to see."

The EAP fund is administered by the Heartland Chapter of the American Red Cross. EAP assisted more than 1,200 households in southeast Nebraska last year. The fund is expected to assist even more of those in need  in 2012, said Judi Martin, OPPD Community Support and Consumer Relations Coordinator.

OPPD employees supported the effort by bidding on 358 items donated both by employees and hundreds of local area businesses.

Employees Can Wear Jeans With Donations to EAP

$5 Jeans Day

A $5 donation to the Energy Assistance Program entitles an employee to wear jeans to work on selected Fridays. Employees who have customer contact are to dress appropriately.

Jeans Day participation is a popular program and another way employees support EAP throughout the year.
