Refrigerator Recycling Program FAQs

Q. Is there a limit per customer?
A. Yes, there is a limit of two per customer.

Q. Will I receive an incentive for recycling my refrigerator or freezer?
A. Yes, you will receive a $35 cash incentive per unit; the incentive will be paid by check and will take approximately four to six weeks for receipt.

Q. How long will this offer last?
A. In 2013 we will be picking up units between March 1 and Oct. 31 or until the funding runs out. The program is funded by a grant from the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality Waste Reduction and Recycling Incentive Grants Program. This is the third and final year for the grant, thus the last year for OPPD’s Refrigerator Recycling Program.

Q. What refrigerator/freezer sizes qualify for the program?
A. Operable units between 10 and 32 cubic feet are eligible for the program.

Q. Will ENERGY STAR rated refrigerators/freezers qualify?
A. No, OPPD is accepting inefficient, older units in working condition.

Q. Who will be picking up the units?
A. OPPD is partnering with JACO Environmental, an appliance recycler with a national reputation of quality customer service and timely pick up.

Q. How much of the refrigerator is recyclable?
A. We recycle 95% of the refrigerator materials. Even the foam is safely incinerated to generate electricity. The overall environmental benefit is equal to taking two cars off the road for one year.

Q. How can I schedule a pickup?
A. Call JACO at 1-866-444-9160 or go to OPPD.com and link to JACO through our web site and schedule an appointment over the web. Or, log in directly at www.jacoinc.net/services.aspx.
