2017 Sustainability Academy Registration
When: July 24-27, 2017
Where: Peter Kiewit Institute, 1110 S. 67 St., Omaha, Nebraska
Registration Fee: $50
OPPD has partnered with UNO and Peter Kiewit Institute for the past 5 years to provide a summer academy on sustainability. This academy focuses on the growing need to understand and promote the wise use of energy, sustainable building practices, technologies, policies and standards to build an environmentally responsible, economically profitable, and healthy future for Nebraska and the region.
The 2017 academy will be themed around biomimicry. Students will experience interactive workshops, hands-on demonstrations in state-of-the-art labs, and take tours of high-performance buildings. Students will also develop team-building and presentation skills around camp learning.
A panel of sustainability experts will also share their educational background, career path, expertise, personal experiences, and answer questions.
Students will leave with a better understanding of biomimicry, and sustainability that can be applied in the real world, as well as insight into potential career opportunities they can pursue.
The four-day academy includes UNO campus housing, meals, and extracurricular activities, such as a movie night and bowling.
This year’s academy is limited to 40 students. High school students are selected based upon academic achievement, as well as extracurricular involvement and leadership experience. There is a $50 registration fee ($10 nonrefundable) to participate in the academy. A limited amount of tuition assistance is available.
