It’s one of the smartest business decisions you can make! Simply upgrade your thermostat and get paid to reduce demand from OPPD. When you enroll in OPPD’s Smart Thermostat Program for Business, you’ll receive a $100 bill credit. Smart thermostats can help businesses lower their energy bills by improving efficiency—and those savings can be amplified by enrolling in our program. It’s a great way to keep energy costs low and help you manage business expenses. Plus, every year you stay enrolled, you’ll get an additional $30 in bill credits every September. It’s quick and easy to enroll!
Here's how it works:
- Enroll a qualified smart thermostat via your thermostat app or online.
- Get a one-time $100 bill credit after enrollment plus an additional $30 bill credit, in September, every year you participate.
- OPPD will manage your AC through your smart thermostat, up to 15 weekdays between May and October, during peak energy times to help reduce demand and keep energy costs low.
- During demand, after precooling for an hour, your thermostat adjusts the set temperature up an additional 1 to 3 degrees. Your thermostat management tool will ensure room temperature is back to your desired setting after the event has concluded.
*Events will not last more than 4 hours

Our program supports a wide range of smart thermostats to fit a variety of business sizes.
Here’s what you can expect:
- Customers will get a notification on their thermostat and/or app.
- Events will occur up to 15 days per year, between May-October, excluding North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) holidays.
- Receive a one-time $100 bill credit after enrollment plus an additional $30 bill credit, in September, every year you participate.
*Devices purchased at a discounted or free rate as part of any OPPD promotional offer do not quality for the one-time $100 bill credit. - Events will occur only on weekdays between 12 p.m. and 9 p.m. and last no more than 4 hours.
- Only one event per day, and there will never be more than three events in a week.
*In cases of system emergency, OPPD may be required to act outside of program parameters as necessary. - Your smart thermostat may automatically adjust temperatures before and during an event to balance comfort and energy savings. If it gets too warm, you can manually adjust the temperature at any time.
To be eligible to participate in OPPD's Smart Thermostat Program you must:
- Have an eligible smart thermostat model that is continuously connected to Wi-Fi.
- Have and maintain a working central air conditioner, heat pump or geothermal system.
- Have an active account with a qualified thermostat manufacturer and have the device linked to that account.
- Agree to the program terms and conditions.
- Remain enrolled for 12 months or risk forfeiting credits.
- Enroll utilizing same name on OPPD account.
- Renting your space? Landlord approval may be needed for equipment upgrades.
