OPPD using helicopters for transmission line inspections to help ensure reliability, resiliency of electric system
October 8, 2025

This week, Omaha Public Power District is conducting aerial inspections of transmission lines and equipment to help ensure reliability and resiliency of our electric system.
The survey, which began on Tuesday, is being conducted by helicopter. It’s expected to continue through Saturday.
Flight paths are dynamic and subject to change from day-to-day as weather conditions change. State and local law enforcement agencies will be notified of the flight path and timelines via the helicopter contractor.
Aerial inspections are a regular part of OPPD’s system maintenance. The utility contracts helicopters to examine various portions of the 1,300+ miles of transmission lines that serve our 13-county service territory.
OPPD personnel will be riding in the helicopter. Employees on the ground are notified of inspection findings, as needed, and coordinate any necessary repairs.
