Omaha Public Power District is improving and expanding our transmission and distribution systems to pave the way for significant growth and development. The utility invites the public to learn more about this work and share input during two upcoming open houses.
Olde Towne Transmission Project
The first is about work that’s part of the Bellevue Reliability Project. The overall multi-year project entails building transmission lines, upgrading or expanding five substations, and building a new substation to support community growth and reliability. OPPD will also be updating an aging portion of our system with more modern technology. We are also addressing system vulnerabilities identified after 2019 flooding, which will be the focus of an open house next week.
This project phase, the Olde Towne Transmission Project, will take place not only in Olde Towne, but areas surrounding it. OPPD will replace existing lines in the flood plain and relocate them. The utility will also evaluate opportunities to upgrade distribution lines and place them under transmission lines where feasible. A public open house next week will give customers an opportunity to learn more and share input.

Arboretum to Midtown Transmission Project
Another project focuses on infrastructure investments in the urban core of midtown Omaha area. Our Arboretum to Midtown Transmission Project includes rebuilding up to seven miles of transmission line and about 2.5 miles of new transmission line. The work will take place in two segments. An upcoming open house focuses on the second segment – the Aksarben to Midtown Transmission Line.
This new line will stretch from 72nd and Pine streets to Saddle Creek Road and Leavenworth Street. OPPD refined the study area into preferred and alternate route segment options based on feedback received during an open house in April. The utility is now gathering additional input to help determine the final route. The public is invited to attend, learn more and share their input.
