OPPD invites the public to its next Integrated System Plan workshop, to learn and provide input about future energy plans

Omaha Public Power District is continuing a comprehensive planning process designed to ensure the utility is prepared to support future growth while maintaining reliable, affordable and environmentally sensitive electric service. 

OPPD’s Integrated System Plan (ISP) serves as a strategic roadmap for long-term energy decisions. Updated every five years, the planning process helps OPPD evaluate future system needs and potential investments as customer demand and the energy landscape continue to evolve. 

This year’s ISP takes a broader approach than previous planning efforts. In addition to evaluating future generation resources, OPPD is considering transmission and distribution needs, potential grid modernization, customer solutions, and both supply- and demand-side technologies. The process will develop and compare potential energy portfolios across a range of future scenarios and will also help guide OPPD’s planned transition of North Omaha Station. 

OPPD is partnering with Energy+Environmental Economics (E3), a nationally recognized consulting firm specializing in energy system analysis, to support the planning process. Together, OPPD and E3 are evaluating a range of technologies and potential pathways to help identify solutions that support reliability, affordability, growth and environmental stewardship. 

The ISP also fulfills a regulatory requirement with the Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) as part of OPPD’s long-term agreement to receive hydroelectric power. OPPD will submit its final plan to WAPA by the end of 2026. 

Community engagement is an important part of the process. Customers and stakeholders are invited to learn about the planning effort, review potential pathways and provide feedback that can help inform future decisions.

OPPD will host its third online public workshop on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 5 p.m. The workshop will provide an update on the planning process and review initial results.
