9 out of 10 homes lose heat, air, and money through drafty doors, missing insulation or inefficient appliances. OPPD’s Weatherization Program now offers a DIY Energy Assessment, a fast and easy way to perform a complete energy-efficiency checkup for your home.

Through our trusted partners at HomeBoost, eligible OPPD customers can now order the “BoostBox” – a home energy testing kit – for a discounted price of $19 (normally $99).*

With HomeBoost’s guided app, the BoostBox’s thermal camera shows you real-time temperature differences in your windows, walls, doors and ceiling that are normally invisible to the naked eye.

Once complete, the results of your assessment are reviewed by HomeBoost’s team of energy experts. They’ll provide detailed recommendations as to where you can make the biggest improvements, what to fix and estimates on potential cost savings.

*Refer to the Terms & Conditions for eligibility criteria and additional program information; failure to return BoostBox within 30 days will result in a $200 fee.

How It Works

Order your BoostBox from HomeBoost below. Your kit will arrive 5-7 business days.

step 2
Download the HomeBoost app and follow the step-by-step instructions. You’ll use the thermal camera to scan your rooms and appliances – a full home scan takes just 30 to 90 minutes!

step 3
Complete your assessment and return your kit to HomeBoost using the provided prepaid envelope. You’ll receive personalized recommendations and a video walkthrough from HomeBoost in 2-3 business days.

IMPORTANT TIP: Upload copies of your utility bills through the app (or send photos to hello@homeboost.com) to receive estimated cost-savings in your results

A team of BPI-Certified home energy professionals review your results to provide:

  • A visual energy-loss map of your home.

DIY Energy Assessment is only available to OPPD single-family residences homeowners. Refer to the Terms & Conditions for additional information on program eligibility. 


Most assessments take 30-90 minutes (depending on your home’s size). You can always pause and resume your assessment anytime using the HomeBoost™ mobile app. 


A smartphone – iOS with lightning cable or USB-C; Android with USB C, with Wi-Fi or mobile data. Smartphone must be able to support iOS version 17 (or newer) or Android version 13 (or newer).

Check with HomeBoost for the latest operating system support version. 


Your Home Energy Assessment kit comes packed with all the essential tools in one box:

  • FLIR Thermal Camera – thermal imaging camera
  • Blacklight – to identify LED lights
  • Step-by-step guide
  • Charging cables
  • Prepaid return envelope for easy shipping back to HomeBoost

Should you receive an incomplete kit, please contact HomeBoost at hello@homeboost.com and they will be able to assist you with it.


If the device is not returned within 30 days, a $200 fee will be assessed to the payment method used during sign-up.

Yes, you may still participate in other residential rebates and weatherization programs if you meet the program’s requirements.
